Phosphorus Deficiency
A metabolic disorder due to low blood phosphorus levels. Commonly seen as “crawler cows”. Often presents itself around calving when demands on the cows rise quickly. Correct identification of low phosphorus symptoms is important as many by-product feeds are high in phosphorus such as PKE, DDG and corn gluten pellets. Too much phosphorus in the diet restricts calcium uptake causing milk fever.
